The Second Half
Each New Year is filled with anticipation and an atmosphere of change and possibility. This environment of hopefulness creates opportunities for fresh goals and new dreams. This inspiration helps us imagine the changes we’d like to see in the year. Our goals are admirable and doable, so we start strong and resilient. We lean into the tangible courage we have and can visualize the outcomes we desire.
A Forbes Health Poll taken on New Years resolutions found that the respondents kept their yearly goals for an average of 3.74 months. Only 8% of yearly goals were followed in the first 30 days of the year. Between two and four months, only 22% of respondents were still invested. After four months, the percentage of those chasing their goals dropped to 13%.
We are in the final 6 months of 2026. Where are you with the goals you set out to accomplish? If you quit chasing your goals, then you have to ask yourself, why?
In my experience with coaching clients, I've recognized that most goal setters act independently. It’s not easy to change ingrained thought processes or habitual practices. We need accountability and a plan of action. A better method for success is to plan for small, incremental changes that come from establishing new habits. It also requires patience and long-suffering, character traits not supported in our fast-paced society. The truth is we don’t like to wait, so we give up!
There have been many football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games when one team was extremely behind in the first half and came back in the second to win. The same is true for you or your business. It’s the second half of the year, and much can be accomplished if you’re willing to shake off the voice of defeat and set another course. Failure is not defeat unless you decide not to try again. Failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s a season to reflect and reignite the passion and purpose for your goals and dreams.
We are in the second half of the game; what will you do next?
